DALLAS (September 29, 2011)—Maines Paper & Food Service Inc., headquartered in Conklin, NY, will begin construction on a 400,000-square-foot distribution center 30 miles east of downtown Dallas this month.
The new facility is slated for Terrell Airport Business Park will be the first distribution center for the Northeast-based Maines to open west of the Mississippi River. It will employ up to 400 workers and serve 196 restaurants throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and Oklahoma. They plan to open in April 2012.
“We’re excited to be coming to Texas,” said COO Terry Walsh. “We are building the distribution center in conjunction with the growth of our customers [in Texas].”
Primarily a chain distributor, with customers like Burger King, Wendy’s, Applebee’s and Subway, Maines nonetheless does nearly $275 million in broadline street business within its Northeast marketing territory.
Construction and hiring for the distribution center will be phased over three to four years, Walsh said. The first phase opening in April 2012 will include the first 100,000 square feet of the distribution center and 100 employees. Recruiting drivers, warehouse associates and customer service associates will follow in October.
Maines will be looking for vendor relationships in Texas, such as refrigeration work and landscaping. The trucking company will soon begin the bidding process for the maintenance of its fleet.
Maines has scheduled a groundbreaking for the distribution center this month on Oct. 21.
