In what is likely a vast undercount, an estimated 40% of Americans believe the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday in the U.S., according to Chipotle (via the UKG Workforce Institute).
(It’s also a day when potentially millions of workers can be expected to fall mysteriously ill and call in sick.)
Chipotle, however, is doing its part to help. The fast-casual chain has declared Feb.10 “Extra Sunday,” offering Rewards members the opportunity to pretend it’s a holiday (or feed their, uh, “fever”) with free guacamole and queso blanco.
On Extra Sunday (actually a Monday), extras won’t be extra, Chipotle said. Rewards members can score a free guac and queso with the purchase of any entrée, but only on the app or online using the promo code “EXTRA25.” It’s the first time the chain has offered both free guac and queso at the same time.
There are other ways to get free stuff, depending on the game itself.
On Super Bowl Sunday, Chipotle will be dropping up to 50,000 codes for free entrees on X and Instagram every time something “extra” happens during the game, like the team on offense converts on a fourth-down play; or the team on offense scores a two-point conversion—or, really, anything else Chipotle determines is an “extra” event. The first fans to text the code to 888-222 will win a free entree code.
“Football’s most watched game is the perfect stage for over-the-top moments, and we’re here to make it even more extra with free Chipotle,” said Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief brand officer. “We’re giving fans something to celebrate when the game is over—free guac and queso blanco—on “Extra Sunday.”
