A growing number of diners have indicated that they use social media sites to “friend,” locate or follow a restaurant and find out about promotions or menu items. Social media is a new and quickly growing way for restaurants to interact with their guests.

  • 73% of customers indicate that they have used a social media Web site in the past 30 days, and of that number, 30% have used it to look up or follow a restaurant
  • 53% of customers follow restaurants on social media to find out about promotional deals, compared to 51% that want to get coupons, and 36% that want to investigate new menu items
  • 39% of consumers go online to get restaurant reviews. Yelp, which has developed a loyal following, is only used by 4% of consumers who seek online reviews
  • Only 16% of customers follow restaurants on social media sites to share their opinion about the restaurant
