Pizza Hut introduces Pizza Charcuterie in celebration of Pi Day

Instead of the usual $3.14 specials, The Plano, Texas-based pizza chain asks fans to strut their creativity with Instagrammable pie-wings-and-dips boards.

March 14 (3/14) has turned into a national holiday for restaurants to celebrate pizza and all kinds of pies, because, you know, 3.14 is the numerical equivalent of pi.

This year, Pizza Hut is going beyond the usual $3.14 pizza promotion for Pi Day. The Plano, Texas-based chain is asking fans to design their own Pizza Charcuterie boards, mixing and matching the menu’s pizzas, wings, breadsticks and dips. For inspiration, Pizza Hut partnered with former NFL star Rob Gronkowski, who created “Gronk Charcuterie” and demos his spread on YouTube.

Pizza Hut partnered with former pro football player Rob Gronkowski to kick off Pizza Charcuterie.

Starting Tuesday, budding charcuterie artists can order a $24.99 Pizza Hut combination of any two medium pizzas, eight boneless wings and a choice of breadsticks and dips, then get to work start designing their own custom spreads. Participants are encouraged to photograph their Pizza Charcuterie boards and showcase the creations on social channels with the tag @PizzaHut.

“We’ve seen creative charcuterie boards take over social feeds, and we knew it was time to give pizza the spotlight it deserves,” said Melissa Friebe, Pizza Hut’s CMO, in a statement. “Because let’s be honest—stacking crackers is cute, but stacking pizza, wings, and breadsticks? That’s a power move.”

Although tied into Pi Day, Pizza Hut suggests Pizza Charcuterie works just as well for March Madness watch parties, book club gatherings and other get-togethers. The limited-time promotion is similar to the chain’s Ultimate Hot Bundle, re-imagined as an interactive, shareable experience designed to tap into the Instagrammable charcuterie trend.
