Pollo Campero is diving into the chicken sandwich wars—with a twist—just as Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen brings back its wildly popular offering.

The 350-unit fast-casual chain wants to “help those most affected by the bitter battle” by offering a free chicken sandwich or a free two-piece chicken meal this week to any Popeyes employee who shows up at a Pollo Campero unit in uniform.

“They can come in any day of the week—even Sunday,” the chain said in a press release, taking a jab at Chick-fil-A, which is famously closed on Sunday. “It’s all in the name of chicken solidarity—for the love of chicken.”

Popeyes employees complained of endless lines after the chicken chain ran out of six weeks’ worth of sandwich supplies in less than two weeks. After a brief hiatus, the sandwich returned on Sunday.
