Restaurant Business won nine Upper Midwest Regional Azbee Awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors on Thursday, including six gold awards.

Senior Tech Editor Joe Guszkowski won three gold awards for his work covering casual dining and technology. He won for a business profile on the Hooters chain, as well as his enterprise story on mergers and acquisitions in the restaurant tech space. He also won Gold for his weekly Tech Check column.

Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Maze won two gold awards, for his individual profile on Brinker International CEO Kevin Hochman and for his analysis on Fat Brands’ financial problems, which would ultimately lead to that company’s bankruptcy filing. He also won a Silver award, writing for sibling publication Foodservice Director, for his feature on the Minnesota State Fair.

Senior Menu Editor Pat Cobe won gold for her feature on the dirty soda trend.

Executive Editor Lisa Jennings won two silver awards, for her look at the impact immigration is having on restaurants and for a story on the unlikely comeback of the San Pedro Fish Market.

Restaurant Business also won silver for its Top 100 Independents package.

The regional awards are a precursor to the National Azbee Awards of Excellence, which will take place this year on May 14. The awards recognize the best in business-to-business journalism.

Restaurant Business is also a finalist for eight Jesse H. Neal Awards, which will be announced on Tuesday.
