Restaurant operators large and small are getting colorful this month with a slew of rainbow-hued promotions in honor of LGBTQ Pride Month. What’s more, many are supporting their LGBTQ communities by donating a percentage of the proceeds to local organizations. Check out some of June’s most creative and vibrant LTOs.
5. Prideful cocktails
Numerous bars are crafting Pride-themed cocktail specials this June. In Chicago, Cindy’s offers up the Miss Vanjie with vodka, mezcal, Campari, rose and pink peppercorn, grapefruit and an orchid garnish. In San Francisco, the Living Room Bar at W San Francisco is serving a Harvey Milk Punch (vodka, herbal liqueur, orange juice, sweet cream and orange wheel garnish) and the Howard St. Hurricane (rum, gin, passion fruit puree, lime juice, grenadine and blue curacao with a purple orchid and mint spring). IO at The Godfrey Chicago is pouring a Rainbow Sangria with colorful fruit ice cubes.
6. Shakes and merch
Shake Shack is offering a Pride Shake, available only through the chain’s app. It’s a strawberry shake, blended with lemonade and topped with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. One dollar from the sale of each shake will benefit a suicide-prevention organization for LGBTQ youth. Shake Shack is also selling Pride pins, T-shirts, tote bags and beach towels, with all proceeds benefiting the youth organization.
8. Rainbow ramen
Chicago’s Furious Spoon ramen chain is dishing up the Pride Bowl, featuring chili-infused noodles, vegetable broth, spicy miso, Fresno chilies, chili shrimp, corn, scallions and Napa cabbage. Two dollars from each bowl will be donated to an LGBTQ healthcare center in the city.
9. Colorful baked goods
Baked goods are a common go-to for the rainbow treatment. Pittsburgh small-plates restaurant Spork is serving The Tart during Pride Week. The dessert is a rye-crusted sour cherry pop tart with vanilla mascarpone pudding, bitter orange gel, glace orange zest, freeze-dried cherries and rainbow sprinkles. Rainbow macarons are on the menu at San Francisco bakery Kahnfections. The boxed set of cocktail-flavored sandwich cookies includes red daiquiri, orange bellini, yellow pina colada, green midori sour, blue moon and purple haze.
10. Pride plate
Piperi Mediterranean Grill, which sits along the Boston Pride Parade route, added a Pride Plate for a limited time. The dish includes beet tartare, carrots, cantaloupe with ginger and lemon, green pea guacamole, blueberry quinoa and grilled purple cauliflower with pomegranate molasses. One dollar from each plate goes to a local LGBTQ charity.
