Starbucks introduces Tie-Dye Frappuccino

Starbucks is getting colorful in its bid to get attention.

The chain that brought consumers the Unicorn Frappuccino and the Crystal Ball Frappuccino on Wednesday debuted another colorful concoction: the Tie-Dye Frappuccino. It's a super limited-time offer, expected to last only a few days.

The drink is made with a tropical Creme Frappuccino wish dashes of powder in yellow, red and blue to make a rainbow. The powder gets its colors from red beet, turmeric and spirulina. There is a final dusting of colored powder sprinkled on the whipped cream at the top of the drink.

The product was developed inside Starbucks’ Tryer Center innovation lab. “We wanted to create something that celebrates summer and really conveys it both visually and through flavor within the beverage,” Starbucks Product Development Manager Paloma Carrington-Bataller said in a statement.

Starbucks periodically releases such drinks in part to please the social media crowd and generate media impressions—the beverages are extremely short-term, available for just days.

The drink has generated some concern among baristas due to its complexity, according to Business Insider.

Starbucks has struggled with transaction count in recent quarters despite growing sales, with some analysts wondering whether complexity is keeping some customers away.
