McDonald’s expected to announce new chicken standards

McDonald’s is set to announce later today that it will stop purchasing chicken that might contain antibiotics, according to a news report from Reuters.

An exclusive report by the news service says the change in purchasing standards will be phased into effect over two years.

The story was sufficient to prompt re-handicapping of chicken producers’ stock price by Wall Street analysts. They pointed out that a change in standards by a purchaser of McDonald’s scale will force profound changes on the poultry industry.

McDonald’s has not publicly confirmed nor disputed the Reuters story.
