Dr. Steven Wells, director of the North Carolina Meat and Poultry Inspection division, said yesterday that coordination between state and local food inspectors was key. He spoke during a conference at which he and others listed the recalls of contaminated pet food and toothpaste. They pointed out that the largest recall consisted of Castleberry food products, including chili and beef stew.
