How to mitigate the impact of Trump tariffs

Working Lunch: This week's political podcast features an interview with Jonathan Gold of the National Retail Federation, who sees the need for better trade policy.

Trump 2.0 tariffs remain a “moving hockey puck,” but in this week’s Working Lunch government and politics podcast from Align Public Strategies, Joe Kefauver and Franklin Coley speak with Jonathan Gold, vice president of supply chain and customs for the National Retail Federation.

Gold gives his views on the proposed tariffs—some of which are on hold, for now—saying they will likely be part of life over the next four years. Better trade policy is needed, he argued, though there are better ways than universal, broad-based tariffs. Gold hopes to see new free trade agreements that could open up markets overseas for U.S. exports that might also provide opportunities for U.S. imports.
