Grilled Steak Sandwich with Watercress and Caramelized Fennel

Grilled Steak Sandwich with Watercress and Caramelized Fennel

Grilled to perfection and topped with caramelized fennel and watercress, this sandwich is full of juicy flavors in every bite.


1 ciabatta roll (3 oz.), split horizontally
1 tbsp. Spicy Pimento Cheese (recipe follows)
4 oz. grilled steak, such as skirt, flank or hanger
1 oz. watercress, thick part of stems removed
2 oz. caramelized fennel

Spicy Pimento Cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar
4 oz. pimentos
1 tbsp. sambal sauce or similar hot chili paste-based sauce 


  1. On preheated grill or char broiler, place ciabatta roll, cut-side down, and toast lightly.
  2. Prepare Spicy Pimento Cheese; spread evenly on toasted side of each roll half.
  3. Place watercress along bottom portion of roll; fan sliced steak over watercress. Top with caramelized fennel.
  4. Place top of roll on sandwich; slice in half and serve.

Spicy Pimento Cheese

  1. Combine all ingredients in food processor; puree until blended. Transfer spread to covered container and refrigerate until needed.
