(Mar 16, 2010 - PR Log)—New England Wholesale food distributor AGAR recently cut the ribbon on their 50,000 S/F warehouse expansion. The expansion which started in October 2009, will now allow AGAR, to continue to increase efficiencies and remain a competitive partner and supplier to independent restaurants and other food service providers.
Joining in the ribbon cutting were city officials including: City Councilors Daniel Mansour Barbour, David Pottier, Ryan Colton, AGAR CEO Karen Bressler, Kevin Shea, executive director of Taunton Office of Economic Development. Mayor Charles E. Crowley, Richard Shafer, COO of Taunton Development Corporation.
The event was celebrated with a party catered by Paiva’s Catering of Taunton. AGAR invited all of their employees and their families to celebrate in their growth. The event had great food, face painting for children and other family activities.
The new warehouse addition has 25,000 S/F of dry storage and 25,000 S/F of frozen storage. Now in completion, AGAR’s total warehouse operation is over 335,000 S/F. AGAR remains the thirteenth largest independent food distributor in the United States serving all of New England.
AGAR also, as part of this project added to their existing rail car service, adding another rail spur to the building which now allows them to take in up to three rail cars at one time.
During the ceremony, AGAR’s President and CEO Karen S. Bressler thanked the city of Taunton once again for their continued blessing of the project. Because of AGAR’s pledge to stay in Taunton and build upon their workforce, they were awarded a Tax Increment Financing Agreement (TIF). The TIF is ultimately and extension of a previous TIF awarded to AGAR in 2000 for their original construction. The TIF covers the new expansion through the years 2011-2017.
