Payments tech company Fiserv has signed a deal to acquire digital marketing and commerce platform BentoBox, according to an announcement Monday.

Details of the transaction, which is expected to close during the fourth quarter, were not disclosed.

BentoBox is billed as the “digital front door” for restaurants, with a platform that offers website design, online ordering and marketing tools. The company was founded in 2013 and now works with more than 7,500 restaurant concepts across 14,000 locations.

“Joining Fiserv is a transformational step for BentoBox,” said Krystle Mobayeni, co-founder and CEO of BentoBox, in a statement. “BentoBox is committed to elevating every interaction between restaurants and their guests. Together with Fiserv, we look forward to rapidly growing our omnichannel capabilities with exceptional digital experiences for restaurants and their customers.”

Brookfield, Wis.-based Fiserv started in 1984 as a data processing firm focused on the financial services industry. It became a publicly traded company two years later. It now has nearly six million merchant locations globally and some 1.4 billion global accounts on file, according to its website.

The BentoBox transaction will expand Fiserv’s Clover dining solutions platform that works with nearly 200,000 restaurants to “deliver unique and differentiating diner experiences, from quick and casual to full service,” the company said.

“Consumers today expect a consistent, seamless experience when engaging with restaurants both in person and online,” Fiserv’s President and CEO Frank Bisignano said in a statement. “The addition of BentoBox’s premier website capabilities to the business management solutions of Fiserv will strengthen our omnichannel platform, providing restaurants of all sizes and types with an integrated offering that delivers a customizable consumer experience. We look forward to welcoming the BentoBox team to Fiserv, as we build on our strategy to deliver blended digital and in-person customer experiences across channels that drive deeper engagement and increased loyalty for our clients.”

Restaurateur Danny Meyer said in a statement that his Union Square Hospitality Group has worked with BentoBox since 2019.

“I look forward to seeing BentoBox and Fiserv create world-class technology that helps restaurants continue to innovate, break barriers, and build more personal guest relationships,” Meyer noted.
