A thermometer so smart, you can always keep your cool

When it comes to restaurants, retail foodservice, and non-commercial kitchens, there’s one vital component of food handling that must be perfected: temperature. But operators already know that. Operators also know that food handling requirements, including temperature control, can be labor intensive and costly.

DayMark® Safety Systems has developed a wireless, app-driven thermometer that incorporates into the food safety company’s popular MenuPilot™ application and MenuCommand™ web portal dashboard.

“Customer reaction to our MenuPilot application and streamlined single-screen management of menu data via the MenuCommand web portal has been overwhelmingly positive,” explains Ed Sharek, category manager of facility and personal safety at DayMark. “That’s because it’s such a reliable, user-friendly way to reduce dependence on hardware and increase performance.”

DayMark’s customers who are successfully using MenuPilot and MenuCommand include over more than 10,000 national and international restaurant chains, convenience stores and other food service operations.

Reduced costs, improved compliance in store

Sharek says the new Matt85 Smart Thermometer™ system includes uniquely identified thermometers that can be placed where most needed and paired with the system via Bluetooth.

“From buffet lines, to high-cost food items in coolers, the Smart Thermometer will help those in management comply with regulations—both front- and back-end—and reduce waste while improving safety and minimizing the amount of labor involved in food temperature monitoring,” Sharek says.

Sharek and the DayMark team are introducing the Smart Thermometer at this year’s National Restaurant Association Show. The programmable Bluetooth thermometers can be set to automatically take temperatures at certain times or intervals, an especially helpful feature during cool-down times. Data can be synced to the customer’s MenuCommand dashboard as soon as a Bluetooth connection is established.

Compliance and productivity can coexist

Imagine being able to provide health inspectors with hour-by-hour temperature-reading records including viable data gathered by the Smart Thermometer while the restaurant team was busy working on food prep, customer service and cleanup. This kitchen automation tool makes food safety compliance easier, more effective and more efficient.

In addition to its new Smart Thermometer, DayMark is refining its proprietary cooler and refrigerator monitoring system. Like the Smart Thermometer, the much-anticipated system also incorporates into the company’s MenuPilot application and MenuCommand web portal dashboard. It provides constant real-time temperature monitoring with 24/7 text or email alerts available based on customer-specific parameters. The system has already been proven in the field and will be ready to roll in the very near future.

Automation certainly does belong in the kitchen—and it’s making things a whole lot easier for restaurants, retail foodservice, and non-commercial kitchens to efficiently and safely prepare food while focusing on creativity, quality and customer service.
