The head of Uber Eats’ important U.S. and Canadian market is leaving the post after four years with the company.
A spokesperson confirmed Janelle Sallenave’s departure Monday. The news was first reported by Business Insider.
Sallenave will be replaced by Stephane Ficaja, regional general manager in Uber Eats’ Europe, Middle East and Africa division.
“Janelle has been a passionate leader of the Uber Eats business in the US & Canada, a fierce advocate for independent merchants, and a mentor to many,” said Uber Eats VP Pierre Dimitri Gore-Coty in a statement.
“We are excited that Stephane Ficaja has stepped up to take on this critical market and drive it into its next phase of growth—after a consistent track record of success in various leadership roles in Europe, he will be an incredibly valuable addition to the North American team,” Gore-Coty said.
The change comes as Uber Eats takes on increasing importance within the larger company. In the second quarter ended June 30, delivery became Uber’s primary business as rides bookings plummeted and deliveries skyrocketed amid the coronavirus pandemic. “We’ve essentially built a second Uber,” CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told investors on an earnings call earlier this month.
