Tyson Foods Selects Firm to Distribute Beef in Alamo City

SAN ANTONIO, Tx. (August 10, 2010)—Tyson Foods Inc. has named Martin Preferred Foods as the company’s exclusive food-service distributor of Chairman’s Reserve Certified Premium Beef to restaurants in San Antonio.

Martin Preferred also won the rights to market the beef in Austin, Dallas and Houston. Tyson’s Chairman Reserve Certified Premium Beef is rated in terms of its tenderness, juiciness and flavor. Tyson officials say fewer than 25 percent of all USDA choice beef carcasses meet the company’s premium beef standard.

Houston-based Martin is a family owned company that has been in business since 1944. It distributes beef, poultry, seafood, wild game, produce, specialty foods and brand-name groceries to hotels, restaurants and stores throughout Texas.

“We are excited to announce this partnership with Martin Preferred Foods, as they have a growing sphere of influence in the Texas restaurant scene,” says Kent Harrison, senior director of marketing at Tyson Fresh Meats. “Our goal is to get the best beef in the U.S. into the hands of the best chefs in Texas, and Martin Preferred Foods is the ideal partner to help us accomplish this.”
