The week in ideas, August 20, 2012

In this installment of the Week in Ideas: No cell phones, no lion and no pizza. Enjoy.

Idea #1: No-cell discount. Los Angeles’s 40-seat Eva Restaurant gives customers a 5 percent discount if they check their cell phones upon entering. "For us, it's really not about people disrupting other guests. Eva is home, and we want to create that environment of home, and we want people to connect again," said owner Mark Gold.

Idea #2: Don’t serve lion. This could have been an item about Wichita’s Taste & See restaurant’s idea for an innovative tasting menu. Instead, it’s an item about the restaurant’s wise move to remove lion from aforementioned tasting menu after protests. The exotic-game promotion still includes crocodile, alpaca and water buffalo, among others.

Idea #3: No more Domino’s “Pizza.” In its ongoing effort to revamp its brand, Domino’s has redesigned its logo, dropping the word “Pizza.” "So much of our menu is beyond pizza right now that we feel like we're more than just a pizza place," Russell Weiner, Domino's chief marketing officer, told Advertising Age.
