Was there a decision you worried about at the time but can look back upon now as learning experience?

The most influential decision we ever made was to give equity to the first two people we gave equity to. Watching what happened to those two people and their families and lives absolutely changed the way we operate.

Is there something you can look back upon now in your career and laugh?

I used to worry in the eleventh hour of every transaction we did. Now it’s just a matter of course.

Was there a mistake that turned into a real learning experience?

When the Zancanellis parted way with KBP, that was a tough moment for me. I was parting with my mentor. But it worked out great, and I sleep a lot more soundly now.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

It would be to definitely find the smartest, best mentors who you’d never think would take time out of their day to talk with you, because they just might.
