Budderfly to expand restaurants' access to energy-efficient HVAC systems

The sustainability company is buying thousands of ultra-efficient Carrier heating and cooling units and offering them to restaurants and other small businesses that typically wouldn't have access to them.

Budderfly, a company that helps businesses improve their energy efficiency, wants to give restaurants better air conditioners.

The company has purchased more than 2,000 ultra-efficiency HVAC units from Carrier, a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration company, with plans to distribute them to restaurants and other small businesses. The design is Carrier’s most efficient commercial rooftop unit. In addition, the units exceed several high-efficiency benchmarks, including the Department of Energy’s Advanced RTU Challenge, according to a press release.

Budderfly is providing them to restaurants for zero upfront cost.

The company said that the systems will allow restaurants to cut energy costs and reduce carbon emissions. The company has partnered with various restaurant chains including Subway and 99 Restaurants, in the past.

“With this agreement, small and medium-sized enterprises’ will have greater access to high-efficiency heating and cooling systems,” said Al Subbloie, founder and CEO of Budderfly, in a statement. “The few available units often go to the highest bidder, making it hard for small and medium-sized businesses, including many fast-food franchises, to access these units. With our high-volume commitment on behalf of these businesses, Budderfly will be able to offer greater access and shorter installation timeframes to our customers.”

The units will be delivered in the second quarter of the year.
