Chick-fil-A is awarding $19 million worth of Remarkable Futures Scholarships to 7,492 team members in 2021.

Thanks to royalties from retail sales of the chain’s bottled sauce, nearly 400 additional scholarships were funded this year. The recipients can apply the funds to any area of study at an accredited institution, including two- or four-year colleges, online programs or vocational/technical schools.

Chick-fil-A Chairman and CEO Dan Cathy surprised 12 team members with $25,000 True Inspiration Scholarships during a virtual ceremony. The remaining funds will be distributed by franchise operators to deserving employees as $2,500 Leadership Scholarships.

“This year’s inspiring scholarship recipients possess strong leadership skills, demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement and continue to make a positive impact on their communities,” said Cathy in a statement. “Our mission is to play a small part in furthering their education, giving them hope and opportunities to change the world.”

Chick-fil-A bottled sauce debuted at retail stores in 2020 in select states and will become available nationally later this spring.

Since 1970, Chick-fil-A Inc. has awarded more than $110 million in scholarships to more than 66,000 restaurant team members. Employees in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada are receiving scholarships in 2021.
