ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz employees and customers are now required to wear masks in its convenience stores to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“The health and well-being of Sheetz’s team members, customers and the communities it serves remains a top priority amid the spread of COVID-19,” Sheetz said in its announcement, which followed orders from Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan that face coverings be worn in retail establishments.
The Altoona, Pa.-based chain—which operates nearly 600 stores in six states, including Pennsylvania and Maryland—had already instituted several changes in its stores in response to the coronavirus crisis. Self-serve stations, including coffee, fresh brewed tea, frozen drinks, f'real milkshakes and bakery items have been suspended.
- Sheetz is No. 14 on the Top 40 update to CSP’s 2019 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by number of retail outlets. CSP will release the complete 2020 list in June.
Sheetz also is encouraging social distancing and has implemented enhanced routine daily cleaning procedures with a focus on high-touch surface areas, as well as emphasizing proper hand-washing and hygiene to its employees.
The chain has an advisory board of senior leaders and sanitation and food-safety experts who are monitoring the virus and implementing preventive measures in its stores.
