The frozen drink craze started way back with pina coladas and margaritas, but today’s restaurants and bars are creating new ways to freeze their assets. From spiked snow cones to alcohol-infused ice pops dunked in prosecco and boozy slushies blended with everything from tequila to rose wine, we rounded up some of the most inventive frozen cocktails luring sweaty drinkers this summer.
3. Momofuku Noodle Bar
In sync with his menu, David Chang is spiking frozen cocktails with soju, the lower-alcohol Korean spirit, at his New York City restaurant. It goes into the seasonal Strawberry Rhubarb Slushie. Momofuku also offers a Spicy Lychee Slushie made with white wine. Both sell for $6.
4. Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar
Customers are chilling out with the Prosecco and Ice Pop cocktail at this bar atop New York City’s Conrad Hotel in lower Manhattan. Liquor-infused popsicles in flavors including peach, strawberry lemongrass and apple are plopped into a glass of sparkling prosecco for a playful but pricey cocktail ($25) that has Instagram feeds buzzing.
5. Parsons Chicken & Fish
Each summer, this Chicago restaurant experiments with its slushy machine, trying out new versions of signature cocktails by putting different concoctions in the machine. The latest: a frozen version of the Purple Drink ($8), made with red wine, port and orange blossom water.
6. Dave & Buster’s
Sports bar chain Dave & Buster’s features a selection of icy cocktails, including its blue-and-red Original Snow Cone flavored with watermelon, pomegranate, coconut and vodka. New in the lineup is the Cherry Limeade Glow Kone, a neon-colored riff on the original. It’s made with vanilla and cherry vodka, lime sour mix and grenadine, chilled with a glow-in-the-dark ice cube. Prices vary by location.
7. Cochon Volant
The Daily Shave ($15) is a boozy take on Hawaiian shaved ice, the icy island treat that combines a mound of fluffy ice and sweet syrup. At this Chicago brasserie, the feathery ice is shaved from a block using a special Japanese tool and topped off with a white negroni and other cocktail variations.
