Beard Foundation schedules tribute to Charlie Trotter

The James Beard Foundation will pay tribute to the late Charlie Trotter at a Nov. 14 dinner prepared by eight of the Chicago chef’s celebrity protégés and friends, including Emeril Lagasse, Norman Van Aiken, Mindy Segal, Carrie Nahabedian and Michelle Gayer.

The event, billed as a celebration of Trotter and his contribution to American cuisine, will be held at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York City.

Trotter rose to fame as the creative but sometimes temperamental chef-proprietor of Charlie Trotter’s restaurant in Chicago. The restaurant’s success was a springboard to television work and a number of best-selling cookbooks.

He closed the restaurant in August 2012 to travel and go back to college. Trotter died of a stroke on Nov. 5, 2013.
