BEK's Roach Elected IFDA Chairman

WASHINGTON, DC - Michael Roach, president of Ben E. Keith Foods was elected chairman of the International Foodservice Distributors Association, Falls Church, VA, during its Annual Membership Meeting held at the IFDA Partners Executive Forum here, Feb. 8.

Roach, who was previously vice chairman, will serve a two-year term. He succeeds Dan Gordon of Gordon Food Service, Inc.

Robert C. Sledd, chairman of Performance Food Group Co., was elected as the vice chairman, and Martin J. Whelan, chairman of Ettline Foods Corp., was re-elected to continue in his role as the secretary-treasurer.

Five new executives were elected as directors for terms beginning in this year. They include: Donald Suber, president of The Merchants Company, Inc. (elected to a one-year term); Leonard Bench, president and ceo of Jake's Finer Foods and Gregory Nickele, president and ceo of Martin-Brower (elected to two-year terms); and Patrick Mulhern, executive vice president of Vistar Corp.; and Terrence O'Connor, president of Avalon Foodservice (elected to three -year terms).

Six existing board members were re-elected to three-year terms beginning in 2004. These include: Thomas E. Lankford, president and coo of Sysco Corp., John Martin, president of Martin Brothers Distributing Co., Inc., W. Kent McClelland, president and coo of Shamrock Foods Co., Paul Saval, president of Saval Foods Corp., David A. Stansfield, president of Institution Food House, Inc., and R. Michael Teagle, president and CEO of Valley Foodservice.
