Denny Marie Post has been named CEO of the Red Robin casual-dining chain, replacing Steve Carley, who is retiring.

Post joined Red Robin as CMO in 2011, and in the time since, has served as the chain’s executive vice president and chief concept officer and, as of earlier this year, its president.

Carley has served as CEO of the brand since September 2010. His replacement is effective today.

“I am honored to have this opportunity and greatly appreciate the thoughtful way Steve and the board planned the succession,” Post said in a statement. “As a team, we have a tremendous legacy to build on—a strong and inspiring culture, talented leadership from our restaurants to our home office, and a collective commitment to deliver a superior guest experience.”

The brand has undergone several leadership changes in recent months—hiring a new CMO, tapping Carin Stutz to lead operations and promoting Post to president.

Red Robin also said today that its comps for the second quarter fell 3.2% year over year, consistent with slips seen across the casual segment during that quarter.
