MARKON ADDS FOUR TOP 50 BROADLINERSFills Southeastern Void, Enhances Penetration of Other Markets

Markon Cooperative, Inc., Salinas, CA, a broadliner produce marketing group, has added four new members, for a total of 12. All 12 distributors, with the exception of one that is Canadian, are among Top 50 U.S. houses. Their North American sales exceed $7 billion, of which approximately 6 to 7 percent is produce volume.

The new affiliates, representing more than $1 billion in overall business, include Allen Foods, Inc., St. Louis; Consolidated Companies, Inc. (CONCO), Metairie, LA; Institution Food House, Inc., Hickory, NC; and Nicholas & Co., Salt Lake City.

"As we sought continuity in the southeastern corridor previously served by PYA/Monarchnow part of U.S. Foodservicewe reevaluated other geographic areas as well," comments Tim York, Markon president. "We are still open to growth for further penetration."
