(Dec. 10, 2009)—Two former employees of the food distribution giant Performance Food Group have set out to run a business that helps smaller food distributors buy in bulk – essentially a for-profit co-op.
Stephen Push and Don Hughes recently launched Legacy Foodservice Alliance. The company will soon be launching a website, Push said.
Both used to work at Progressive Group Alliance, which was a division of Performance Food Groups that was sold in February to Atlanta-based UniPro.
The first wave of Charter Distributor Members who have committed to this group include:
Cedar Farms Co., Inc., Philadelphia, PA
Colony Foods, Lawrence, MA
Maple Leaf Foods, Buffalo, NY
Thomsen Foodservice, East Providence, RI
Todd Distributors, Inc., Laurens, SC
Van Bennett Food Co., Inc., Reading, PA
William George Co., Inc., Lufkin, TX
An informational webinar will be held for media on December 15 at 2:30 PM ET. Push and Hughes will provide details about the group’s marketing plan and share their vision for the future of Legacy Foodservice Alliance. An invitation with detailed call-in information will be sent to media representatives on December 8.
