6 U.S. concepts named in list of the world’s 50 best restaurants

Six American restaurants were named in this year’s list of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.” The list included three New York City restaurants: Eleven Madison Park at No. 5, Le Bernardin at No. 18 and Per Se at No. 40, as well as Chicago’s Alinea at No. 26 and recent James Beard Award-winner Blue Hill at Stone Barns, located in upstate New York, at No. 49.

Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca took the list’s top honors, knocking Rene Redzepi’s Danish restaurant Noma out of the No. 1 spot, into No. 3.

The list, aired yesterday at a gala event in Europe, is a global parallel of the United States’ James Beard Awards. It is bound into a dining directory aimed at international travelers and food aficionados worldwide.
