Roy Choi’s Locol aims to redefine fast food

Locol, the new concept from chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson, seeks to make good on its goal of bringing healthy, affordable food to underserved neighborhoods, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The restaurant, which opened Monday in the Watts section of Los Angeles, offers burgers and other handheld fare at QSR-comparable prices, and has an organic vibe that feels more like “someone’s big front porch” than a collaboration between two well-known chefs, the Times says.

With three additional locations in the works, the chefs plan to take Locol nationwide, using the early restaurants as incubator units, according to the Times.

Choi and Patterson join other high-profile industry players, such as Jose Andres, in quests to elevate fast food, as Restaurant Businessearlier noted.
