Sysco Picks 2008 Suppliers of the Year, Heritage Award Winners

The award was presented at Sysco's first Super Regional Conference held in Houston on January 13, 2009. This is the 14th year that Sysco has annually recognized its top performing suppliers. Pactiv, or its acquired subsidiaries, has been named a Top 100 Sysco Supplier each year of the program, but this is the first time the company has been named Sysco’s No. 1 Gold Supplier.

Other top-level product suppliers recognized by Sysco for 2008 include: Conagra-Lamb Weston, McCormick & Company, Pilgrim's Pride, Dean Foods-Morningstar, Sara Lee Foodservice, Heritage Bag Company, Advanced Food Company, Heinz North America, and Perdue Inc.

The 2008 Supplier Recognition recipients were selected from more than 2,000 eligible suppliers located across the world. All finalists were selected based on key business performance metrics with critical evaluation by Sysco's U.S. broadline distribution companies, Sysco's corporate Merchandising, Sourcing, Quality Assurance and Supply Chain Services departments.

On the operations side, Sysco recognized Thermo King (transportation), RefrigiWear Inc. (warehouse), and Orion Energy Services (facilities) as its 2008 Operations Suppliers of the Year.

Sysco also announced the winners of its fifth annual Heritage Awards, presented to the top women- and minority-owned businesses that supply Sysco brand products. This year's recipients include gold medalist Carla's Pasta Inc., silver medalist Windsor Foods and bronze medalist Signature Breads. This is the second consecutive gold medal win for Carla's Pasta.
