DayMark’s new ‘App Store’ is the gateway to safe, healthy and profitable food offerings

Traditionally, in a food service setting, the term “apps” refers to appetizers.

DayMark Safety Systems, however, is looking to disrupt that thinking by introducing what is essentially an ‘app store’ for the food service industry—and it has (mostly) nothing to do with pre-entree snacks.

Called Gateway, the system includes a number of cloud-based applications, each designed for use in restaurants, quick-service stores and grab-and-go outlets, as well as in noncommercial kitchens, such as those in schools and universities.

“Because these are cloud-based apps, they can be accessed at one or scores of different food service facilities most anywhere in the world,” says Jeff Gayer, vice president of product development for DayMark.

“View these applications as a solutions suite, working to help professionals in the [food] industry ensure that the food restaurants serve is safe and healthy, and meets up-to-the-minute regulatory rules and regulations.”

According to Gayer, key to the Gateway system are the following applications:

MenuPilot™: The MenuPilot app takes information directly from the MenuCommand web portal, allowing it to be shared with one or hundreds of food service operators around the globe.

Nutritics Insight: This application analyzes more than 60 different nutrients and food ingredients in recipes, including calories, sugar, salt, vitamins, allergens and glycemic index. It also provides a complete breakdown of recipe cost, cost per portion, and contribution of individual ingredients.

MenuCommand™: Designed for use at the corporate level, this is a centralized management and communication portal for menu data, training materials and other information critical to the operation of a food service organization.

Matt85™: A hardware bundle that includes an Android tablet and a Bluetooth-enabled label printer, the Matt85 is designed to work seamlessly with the Gateway system and is available exclusively through DayMark.

Gayer adds that along with the individual applications, the Gateway system has several new features that should be welcomed in the food service industry, including:

  • Enhanced communication. Shelf life, nutritional facts, allergens and prep data are stored in the cloud and accessible anytime, anywhere, so food service workers can share the same procedures. This also allows for quick and easy food labeling.
  • Real-time updates. Menu changes or new compliance regulations can be communicated to all locations instantly.
  • Simplified, company-wide learning. Training videos and recipe cards can be created and shared at all sites, providing consistent and thorough staff training.
  • Security. The entire cloud-based system keeps data safe and secure. Plus, all updates are handled automatically over the Internet, eliminating the need for USB drives or downloads from FTP sites.
