U.S. Foodservice Names New COO

COLUMBIA, MD - U.S. Foodservice here has hired a logistics industry veteran who served in senior level positions at Frito-Lay and Dell Computer as chief operating officer, according to news reports.

David Allen will oversee all divisional and regional operations and national accounts at the country's second largest foodservice distributorship, which employs nearly 30,000 across the country. He will report directly to U.S. Foodservice's Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Benjamin.

Allen was a senior vice president at Frito-Lay, which is owned by PepsiCo. He was vice president of worldwide operations for Dell. Most recently, Allen was ceo of WorldChain, a tech company focused on the logistics industry.

Federal prosecutors in New York brought civil and criminal charges against four former executives at scandal-ridden U.S. Foodservice last week. The charges stem from last year's $850 million accounting scandal at the company, which is owned by Dutch retailer Ahold.
