U.S. Foodservice Sales Growth Boosts Ahold



Ahold's Net income increased to 219 million euros ($281 million), or 13 cents a share, from 137 million euros, or 8 cents, a year earlier, Anders Moberg, ceo, said during today's conference call. Despite the significant increase in the second largest U.S. distributor' operating income, Bloomberg News pointed out that analysts that it had contacted had net income of about 159 million euros.

Ahold's distribution unit led profit growth after Moberg split the division in two last year and ended unprofitable contracts.

According to Dutch company, second quarter 2006 net sales at the Columbia, MD-based distributorship increased 2.3% to $4.4 billion
