The week in ideas, August 12, 2013

This week: Danny Meyer takes to the sky. A restaurant goes big with water. Bad restaurant names. And using vodka as a tool of protest.

Idea #1: Forget the airport, get on the plane. Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group is going to create "BusinessElite Express Meals" for Delta’s three daily flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and London-Heathrow.

Idea #2: The 45-page water menu. Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s in-house Ray’s and Stark’s Bar restaurant is going big with its water service, offering bottled water from around the world and hiring a water sommelier.

Idea #3: Change your restaurant name. Especially if you’re one of these.

Idea #4: Beverage choices as acts of protest. New York City’s United Restaurant and Tavern Owners Association, which represents 3,000 hotels, nightclubs, bars and restaurants, is calling for a city-wide ban on Russian vodka. The move is in protest over the country’s new and barbaric anti-gay laws.
