Eggs Up Grill heads west

The breakfast-and-lunch chain has a 30-unit development deal in Texas, its biggest yet. It signals a shift in strategy for the fast-growing brand.

The former SVP of operations has been with Carrabba's owner Bloomin' Brands since 1996, when he started as a server at Outback Steakhouse.

Following a successful $10 meal deal, the chain is queuing up happy hour and lunch specials, even as it works to keep costs down.

MTY Food Group, which also owns Pinkberry and Cold Stone Creamery, among many others, will buy BBQ Holdings for $17.25 per share.

The casual-dining chain is deepening its partnership with C3, bringing more of its concepts to more restaurants.

The Outback Steakhouse parent is adding new technology and equipment to make restaurants more productive and will likely raise prices again to ease higher costs for just about everything.

Regional spikes are having an impact on the chain’s top line. Meanwhile, it continues to battle higher costs for food and labor.

The application process has opened for 1,000 establishments, with the gaming scheduled to begin Jan. 1.

The chain’s traffic fell slightly in the second quarter, which executives said is typical for summer. The decline came entirely on the to-go side of the business.
