BOISE, ID (October 19, 2012)—Golbon, a buying group for independently-owned foodservice distributors, hosted nearly 200 companies and over 400 attendees at their annual fall conference held October 3-6 in San Diego. The group holds two shows each year where distributor members meet with major foodservice manufacturers to discuss industry trends, negotiate purchases and network.
Golbon President Randy Taylor welcomed attendees at the General Session before breaking for educational seminars covering topics such as HACCP and the GS1 Initiatives. Various social events, and 12 hours of tradeshow over the course of the next two days filled participant’s schedules. The show provided ample time for everyone in attendance to do business and uncover new opportunities. Adding to the meeting’s energy, Golbon continued with their Big Money, Big Prizes promotion that awarded members cash and prizes throughout the conference.
The grand finale was the awards banquet where Golbon‘s top achieving members and suppliers were honored for standout accomplishments during the previous twelve months – accomplishments made despite what has continued to be a challenging economic environment. The top award winners were: Golbon’s Distributor of the Year, Superior Foods Co. based in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Golbon’s Supplier of the Year, Armour-Eckrich.
Arthur Oppenheimer and Ernest J. Voigt initially formed Golbon as Bonded Foods in 1963 to provide foodservice distributors a private label program for premium frozen fruits, vegetables, and potatoes through forward warehouses. In 1981 Bonded Foods was changed to Golbon as it transitioned into a full service, broad-line purchasing and marketing group for independent foodservice distributors.
