Located at 1851 Newman Road, the store was opened with with a ribbon cutting and community open house, and a giant tailgate party, Tuesday, Aug. 10. Customers of the new GFS Marketplace store will find a large selection of produce and dairy, grocery and frozen, paper and janitorial products.
This will be the third GFS Marketplace in metro Lansing; the other two are located at 5912 W. Saginaw and 454 E. Edgewood. The new store hours will be Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
We felt that we could put this store on the east side of Lansing to better serve customers from ... the Okemos and the campus area, all the way into the eastern counties," said Mark Dempsey, a member of GFS's marketing team
We're very excited to open this new store to serve our customers, both existing - customers who maybe couldn't make the drive to the west side or the south side of Lansing."
Dempsey said customers have for some time been asking for a store on the east side of town. "We've heard from customers that they had to make an extra-special trip to our store from this side of town, so this makes it more convenient for them," he said.
Store personnel are also getting positive vibes from restaurant owners, whose trips for supplies are now a whole lot shorter. Unlike the wholesale clubs, Gordon Food Service is a local company committed to serving the needs of the community and does not charge a membership fee to shop in their stores and is open to the public. As part of its grand opening, GFS Marketplace donated $1,000 to City Rescue Mission of Lansing.
