Domino’s expands custom delivery car fleet

Domino’s said that it is rolling out a “second wave” of the custom delivery vehicles it debuted last year, increasing the size of its DXP fleet to 155 cars.

Fifty-eight additional vehicles will be dispatched to 23 markets this summer, the chain said.

The cars, which are purchased by franchisees, each feature a warming oven, racks that hold up to 80 pizzas and “puddle lights” that can project the Domino’s logo onto the ground.

Dubbed DXP (for “Domino’s Delivery Expert”), the vehicles are the culmination of a partnership with General Motors and another partner.

“The DXP demonstrates Domino’s passion for pizza delivery," Russell Weiner, president of Domino’s U.S. segment, said in a statement. “The excitement around it has been incredible, which is why we have such a great demand for even more.”

The 25 markets that received the vehicles last year included Dallas, Detroit, Boston, Seattle, San Diego, New Orleans and Indianapolis.

Domino’s has continued its tech innovation streak in recent months, rolling out a variety of ordering and delivery initiatives such as zero-click ordering. Rising on such additions, the chain’s comps grew 12 percent last year, well above the gains seen by rivals Papa John's and Pizza Hut
