Panera Bread said Wednesday that its line of soups is now free of artificial preservatives, flavors, sweeteners and colors.

In addition to removing any additives on Panera’s well-publicized No No List, changes were made to improve the quality of the soups’ overall ingredients, the chain said.

These changes come as the chain makes strides to strip its menu items of artificial components, which it aims to accomplish by the end of this year.

“I want to create soups that our guests will love,” Dan Kish, Panera’s head chef, said in a statement. “And equally important, I want them to understand and feel confident in the ingredients that go into those soups.”

Panera said it serves around 200 million servings of soup annually, with Broccoli Cheddar being its top seller.

The number of independent restaurants declined by 2.3% in 2025

That drop reflected a net loss of about 9,500 restaurant locations due to an increasingly challenging operating environment. Chain restaurants, however, fared a bit better.
