Taco Bell starts delivery rollout

Taco Bell has teamed up with a third-party service called DoorDash to offer delivery service as of today in 90 cities from about 200 units.

The stores are concentrated in California, in and around Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orange County. Dallas is also one of the inaugural markets.

Taco Bell said that it intends to add delivery chainwide, and will use its experiences in the initial markets to fine-tune the service.  It noted that a limited test had already been conducted with DoorDash.

DoorDash already delivers in some markets from The Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen and other restaurants. The Taco Bell arrangement is its first national deal, DoorDash said.

DoorDash enables consumers to order food via a phone app or computer. It charges a fee for the service.

The move adds Taco Bell to a long and fast-growing list of chains that have recently branched into delivery by pairing with a third party. McDonald’s, Starbucks and Chipotle Mexican Grill, for instance, have all teamed up on a limited basis with a service called PostMates.
