GOLDSBORO, NC (July 26, 2010)—Foodservice distributor Pate Dawson Company announced today that meat industry veteran Bill Mutton has been named president of its new Meat and Seafood Solutions, LLC subsidiary.

The company created Meat and Seafood Solutions recently to operate the assets it acquired of fellow North Carolina food distributor Southern Foods Group. In his new role, Mutton will report to Pate Dawson Chief Executive Officer Malcolm ‘Mac’ Sullivan.

“We’re looking forward to drawing on Bill’s experience, knowledge and lifelong involvement in the meat industry,” said Sullivan.

Mutton most recently was vice president of Performance Food Group where he oversaw meat-processing operations at PFG companies across the country. Prior to joining PFG in 2003, Mutton spent six years with U.S. Foodservice where he was involved in leadership of the company’s Stockyards Packing divisions. He was the third generation of the family who owned Buffalo Provisions where he spent 19 years and served as president when the company became the Buffalo division of Stockyards Packing.

In his new role, Mutton will be based in Greensboro at Meat and Seafood Solutions which has a distribution center as well as a USDA-inspected facility where fresh-cut meats and seafood are processed to customer specifications.

Pate Dawson announced the creation of Meat and Seafood Solutions in July to operate the specific assets it acquired of Southern Foods which was founded 56 years ago in Greensboro. Together the two companies will stock more than 10,000 items and expect product and service offerings to continue to grow.

Pate Dawson Company, one of the largest family-owned, independent food distributors in the Southeast, operates distribution centers in Goldsboro, Greensboro and Atlanta, Ga. The company serves operators in seven states.
