Sonic opens menu-development kitchen

Sonic Drive-In has fired up a new $1-million culinary center where the franchisor will develop and test new menu items and equipment.

The company called the opening an important part of the chain’s growth strategy. Sonic has seen sales grow as a result of reformulating many of its menu staples, like a footlong hotdog, and developing a number of new options. “We are looking to build on that momentum,” CEO Cliff

Hudson said in announcing the Culinary Innovation Center’s official opening.

The Oklahoma City facility will be overseen by chef Claes Petersson, Sonic’s vice president of product innovation.
