Seven Union Square Hospitality Group restaurants are closed until later this month and the multi-concept group will be requiring booster shots for eligible employees immediately, with diners requiring a booster starting Jan. 24.

Surging COVID cases among employees and customers are forcing restaurants to temporarily shut down during what is typically a busy holiday season. And the new year brings more uncertainty.

More than 3,300 independent restaurants signed a letter Thursday saying they will have to permanently shut their doors if Congress does not replenish the Restaurant Revitalization Fund.

A group called Save Casa Bonita has filed an objection to the proposed sale, offering to pay $3.5 million for the Mexican restaurant/tourist attraction.

The company, which operates satellite kitchens for emerging brands in San Francisco and Chicago, said it plans to expand to Texas and Southern California.
