Dutch Bros Coffee has quietly been one of the strongest growth chains in the U.S.

This week’s episode of the Restaurant Business podcast “A Deeper Dive” features Joth Ricci, president of the 400-unit chain, to discuss its growth strategies, response to the pandemic, and its future.

Dutch Bros has grown an average of 12% a year between 2014 and 2019, according to data from Restaurant Business sister company Technomic, and in 2019 grew by 15%. Last year it met its goals for unit growth despite the pandemic.

Ricci discusses that growth and the chain’s future plans. He also discusses how the company responded to the pandemic—including its use of technology, which it sped up over the past year.
