Future 50: Emerging Brands

The Future 50 2013

Can anything stop yogurt?

In three of the past four years—including this one—a yogurt concept has topped our annual ranking of the fastest growing small chains in America. In a way it’s not surprising. This new generation of yogurt shops touches many of-the-moment trends: healthy, snackable, customizable, open and colorful designs. On the other hand, it is amazing we haven’t reached peak yogurt yet.

But as always, The Future 50 captures a large swath of concepts on the rise. Compiled by our partners at Technomic, the list identifies the fastest growing concepts between $25 million and $50 million in annual sales, a point at which a concept has proven itself and is poised to enter a new level of national awareness. In our very first Future 50, the number one spot was held by a little hamburger concept called Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

So take note of these small concepts—yogurt or otherwise—on the rise. You’ll be hearing a lot more of them soon.
