Del Taco on Monday named Chad Gretzema chief operating officer, a newly created position that it hopes will improve operations.

Gretzema had been the company’s senior vice president overseeing strategic planning and innovation since 2012. He had previously held positions with Einstein Noah Restaurant Group and Noodles & Co., among other companies.

John Cappasola, Del Taco’s CEO, said that Gretzema “brings a wealth of restaurant experience” to the position.

“Chad has been a key architect of many of our strategic combined solutions operational improvement efforts and is a trusted partner within the organization who knows how to help teams delivery superior results,” he said.

He added that the new role “will further our focus on great four-wall operations.”

According to a federal securities filing, Gretzema’s departure came as David Pear, senior vice president of operations for Del Taco, resigned effective Sept. 27.
