Jack in the Box on Friday named Doug Cook the chain’s new chief technology officer.

Cook has more than 20 years of industry experience and will work to “develop and execute strategic initiatives to support the brand’s needs.”

He had been serving as interim chief technology officer for the San Diego-based chain but before that had been the chief information officer with Pizza Hut, where he oversaw IT organization and worked on the company’s data products. He had previously worked as a technology executive with Sonic.

Darin Harris, Jack in the Box’s CEO, said that Cook “understands the evolving technology expectations of our guests, and will help Jack in the Box grow in that department.”

Cook joins Jack in the Box at a time of increased demands for technology at restaurants. All types of restaurants are investing heavily in technology both in the front and the back of the house as they face more takeout demands from consumers and a need for improved efficiency.
