It’s prom season, and love is in the air—even among the country’s largest quick-service chains.
A Boston Burger King asked the Wendy’s next door to prom this week via its reader board and posted a picture of its “@WENDY’S PROM?” request on Twitter.

The tweet had been shared several thousand times and received more than 32,000 likes in the days since it was sent.
Wendy’s soon weighed in with a tweet in response: “Ok, but don’t get handsy and we have to be home by 10.” (That tweet has generated even more enthusiasm than the original, with more than 87,000 shares and more than 400,000 “likes.”)

The Burger King updated its reader board to say, “SHE SAID YES!” and posted a picture on Twitter, along with a rose in a burger box.

Wendy’s Twitter feed used the opportunity to drive much consumer engagement, suggesting trips to go dress shopping and even engaging with other brands, including Moon Pie packaged desserts, which tweeted: “Oh, I was planning on standing by the hors d’oeuvres on Twitter all night but I could learn to dance for you.”

“Dancing with the Brands this Fall on some tv station,” Wendy’s replied.

For its part, Burger King expressed its joy on its Twitter feed: “Women aren’t prizes to be won. But man, we felt like winners when she said yes.”

but man, we felt like winners when she said yes.
This is far from the first time big chains have engaged in Twitter banter, though this may be the most romantic instance.
