Chipotle said to avert food safety lawsuits

Chipotle has hammered out settlements with more than 100 customers who were sickened during the highly publicized food contaminations involving the chain at the end of 2015, Reuters reported.

The details of the settlements, including a dollar value, were not revealed. The news report noted that many of the disputes were settled out of court, a course that lessened chances of additional negative publicity for the burrito chain.

The food poisonings sent Chipotle’s customer counts and sales into a free fall, which the chain is struggling to reverse. This month, the chain is trying to lure back customers with the promise of free drinks for students and complimentary meals for children accompanied by an adult.
